It is easy to get distracted by all of the products and so called guru’s who are trying to get you to buy the latest product that will supposedly solve all your problems.  The fact of the matter is that you simply need to find a niche which is currently under served by the market and match the starving crowd with the right product at  a fair price.

Of course doing this is harder than it sounds, but not a lot as there are some great tools around and many of them are free. What we do is find a niche (say slimming products) we think is promising then research using Google tools and any others we may have to see if people are looking for it and what related terms they type. We then need to find out how much traffic there is and if other advertisers are bidding on the terms used by the potential customers, we look at the top sites for the terms we chose (keywords), and see what we could do better.

We then write an article using the keywords in the title and several times (2 or 3) in the first para graph and repeat approximately 3% of the time throughout the article. We use this to set up a simple web site or blog and then use that article (which must be original and relevant) to create 5 or 6 more articles that are similar but original. These will be used to signpost our website, usually article publishing sites allow 2 to 3 links in the bio and these days none in the body, so read their rules before you post.

Next set up Social Media sites that link to the site you set up and to give more background to prospective clients as to who you are and how you might help them, they can refer to your articles and each other. You should use RSS feeds to save re-entering text many times over. This will also help with keeping sites current. This is known as Article Marketing and will drive free traffic to your site. The high ranking of the publisher also helps your rank.

Try to choose a niche which will stay active for the long term and avoid stuff that will date where at all possible. Next you will need to post to as many directories as possible so that people can find you. It is no good having great sites if no customers can find the site. You should be aiming to get links from as high ranking sites as possible back to your site, there is a rub off of their page ranking onto yours. This general topic is SEO (Search Engine Optimization.)

Next your landing page (the one you direct clients to) needs to have an offer or something that will get the visitor to give you their E mail address so that you can follow up and make other offers if they do not take the first. This needs to be permission based or you can get in trouble AWeber or Constant Contact are products than can handle this.

You will also need to source your products unless you are selling something you make, and this is where affiliate marketing comes in you can sell Amazon or eBay products, for example though Clickbank and Commission junction also offer affiliate products which have better returns. You need to evaluate these and see which match your market. The higher the return the harder it is to sell in general, but not necessarily which is why the market research is so important. The research can be forums or Yahoo questions and Answers etc. etc.

If you are still reading you are probably getting an idea by now why there are so many products out there to help you in the process, but you are also feeling a little lost at least I was.
